I rarely see it fight<br \/>\nto protect its petalled stalk.<br \/>\nNot like the ruby throat<br \/>\nthat takes on a sphinx moth <\/p>\n<p>daring to visit a bee balm blossom.<br \/>\nSpicebush and pipevine visit on occasion.<br \/>\nZebras float past but never land.<\/p>\n<p>Summer lingers, tails get ragged,<br \/>\nblue spots less brilliant.<br \/>\nI dead head the bush <\/p>\n<p>all season to keep the colors coming.<br \/>\nOne night, the frost is heavy,<br \/>\nleaves curl up, <\/p>\n<p>but I never see a butterfly<br \/>\nwith wings rimed with ice.<\/p>\n<p>The Hudson View<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SWALLOWTAILS Yellow against green catches my eye as the tiger swallowtail walks from under its leaf to wait for the sun or buddlea&#8217;s nectar to rise.
