{"id":442,"date":"2024-05-20T19:02:47","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T19:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecatbirdsang.com\/www\/?p=442"},"modified":"2024-05-20T19:02:47","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T19:02:47","slug":"flames","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecatbirdsang.com\/www\/flames\/","title":{"rendered":"Flames"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a>Flames<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I light the candle in the jar,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it flames from the match<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in blues then yellow, the spindled<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>point swivels in the breath of the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a hearth, flames warm the home,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>dry oak crackles, embers star up the chimney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morning ashes, incense of the dead fire,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>grey the charred logs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a forest, a cinder sparks. The fire<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>devours everything.&nbsp; Jumping a firebreak,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>it swallows a house. Smoke clouds the sky<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to bring on a storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red embers escape to travel the wind.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the last tree enveloped in red and orange,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>flames are contained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the jar, I smother the flame\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>quiet flutter with the lid, leaving a ring<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of black smoke on the rim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Oracle&nbsp; 2023<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flames I light the candle in the jar, it flames from the match in blues then yellow, the spindled point swivels in the breath of the house.
